How to See Competitor Facebook Ads

Updated

Short answer

Use Meta Ad Library to search the advertiser or Page, select the relevant country and ad category, then inspect the active ads tied to that Page. Record the Page ID, Ad Library ID, creative, dates and destination you can observe. Do not treat an active ad as proof that it is profitable.

Find the ads a competitor is running now, identify the right Page, and save enough evidence to make the research useful later.

The fastest legitimate way to see a competitor’s current Facebook and Instagram advertising is Meta Ad Library. The useful part is not simply opening the Library; it is confirming that you found the correct advertiser, preserving the public identifiers and connecting each creative to the destination behind it. This gives you a clean research record without pretending that public visibility reveals spend, CPA, conversion rate or ROAS.

STEP BY STEP

What to check

1. Search the advertiser, not just the product

Start with the brand or company name and verify the Page identity before studying the ads. Similar names, resellers and regional Pages can produce misleading results. When Meta exposes a Page ID, keep it as the stable advertiser identifier for later searches.

2. Set the market deliberately

Choose the country that matches the market you actually want to study. A brand can run different creatives, offers and landing pages in Spain, the United States or another market, so a country filter is part of the evidence rather than a cosmetic setting.

3. Separate active ads from historical assumptions

For ordinary commercial advertising, the Library is best used to understand what is publicly visible now. Record start dates and status when available, but do not infer budget or performance from visibility alone. A long-running ad is a research signal, not a profitability report.

4. Capture the fields that make the ad traceable

Save the advertiser/Page name, Page ID, Ad Library ID or ad identifier when available, primary text, headline, CTA, format, visible platforms and observation date. These fields let you find the same creative again and distinguish it from a similar-looking variation.

5. Open the destination behind the creative

Follow the destination when it is available and record the final URL after redirects. Compare the ad promise with the landing-page headline, offer and CTA. The landing page often explains the campaign strategy better than the creative alone.

6. Save evidence before you write conclusions

Keep a structured record or save the ad into a research library before taking notes. Write observations first, then hypotheses. For example, ‘three ads use a free-trial offer’ is an observation; ‘the free trial is their best-performing offer’ is not supported by public ad data.

7. Revisit only when the question requires history

If you need to know what is new, changed or ended, one Library search is not enough. Compare dated observations or use a monitoring workflow so you can distinguish a new launch from an ad that was already present during the previous review.

Check the production URL

A correct configuration on paper can still fail after redirects, deployment or consent logic. Use the exact URL your campaign will send traffic to.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I see every ad a competitor has ever run?

Not for every ordinary commercial advertiser. The Library is strongest for ads that are currently visible under Meta’s transparency rules. If you need your own longitudinal history, save dated observations while the ads are available.

Can I see how much a competitor spends?

Public commercial-ad views do not normally provide the complete spend and outcome data needed to judge performance. Do not turn activity, longevity or variation count into invented spend, CPA or ROAS.

Does an active ad mean it is a winner?

No. It means the ad is publicly observable as active in the selected context. It can be useful evidence that the advertiser chose to keep running it, but the reason and economics remain unknown.
